Must-see TV for 2014

You’ll be glad you have good satellite or aerial coverage this year because there are some hotly anticipated programmes about to hit the silver screen. Grab the biggest tub of popcorn you can find, don those 3D glasses and get ready to be blown away by these must-view features.

  • World Cup: Yey! It’s been four long years since the last world cup but the wait is nearly over, we’ll soon be glued to the television watching the best players in the world compete for their respective countries in Brazil. Think England can go all the way this time? Will Rooney be on form? Probably not but we can live in hope!
  • The Fall: Gillian Anderson was brilliant in the first series of The Fall and if the early reports are anything to go by expect more of the same from the second series. See what happens to serial killer Paul Spector, will he finally get his comeuppance?
  • Mad Men: Due for release in the spring and sadly the last series of this excellent programme. The rumour has it the final series will actually be split, half will be shown this year and the final few programmes in 2015.
  • Suspects: A crime-drama starring the excellent Fay Ripley has got to be good, especially when it’s filmed fly-on-the-wall style as early previews would indicate. You don’t have long to wait for this, tune in from February onwards.
  • From There To Here: Set around Manchester in 1996, this programme is based on a man whose life is ripped apart by the IRA bombings in the June of that year. It starts Philip Glenister, Bernard Hill and Steven Mackintosh so with that meaty cast list it’s definitely one to watch out for.
