Safety tips for the garden

Posted by

We provide security installations throughout Manchester , Sale , Stockport and the North West at JNB and are always happy to offer our customers a little advice in relation to home security. Take the outside of the property for example, this one area that is often overlooked and it’s a hotspot for crime. Here are some tips to prevent pilfering outside your property.

Lock your car – Always lock your car when you park it on the driveway. Thieves are brazen, they’ll stroll right up your driveway bold as brass and take items from your car if you leave it unlocked. Take care unloading the car after shopping trips, walk into the house carrying a bag of shopping and crooks could be helping themselves to a ‘buffet’ of items from your boot.

Lock the garage – Never leave the garage door unlocked, it’s an open invite to thieves. Be careful when you leave the garage door open on sunny days as well, you could be tending to your lawn out the back and a crook will be riding away on one of the family’s bikes.

Secure side gates – If you have a gate leading down the side of the property secure it with a study padlock.  Make it harder for thieves to breach your property, keep gates locked when not in use.

Lay gravel on the path – A cheap but effective security measure is to lay stone chippings along your path. You’ll hear if anyone is ‘crunching’ their way to your house and can take a quick peek outside.

Hide tools away – Never leaves tools or other items out in the open and unwatched for too long. Thieves will pinch them or they could use them to try and break into your property so pack them away after use.

If you want advice about home security get on touch with the team at JNB and we’ll help to make your home more secure.

Must-see TV for 2014

Posted by

You’ll be glad you have good satellite or aerial coverage this year because there are some hotly anticipated programmes about to hit the silver screen. Grab the biggest tub of popcorn you can find, don those 3D glasses and get ready to be blown away by these must-view features.

  • World Cup: Yey! It’s been four long years since the last world cup but the wait is nearly over, we’ll soon be glued to the television watching the best players in the world compete for their respective countries in Brazil. Think England can go all the way this time? Will Rooney be on form? Probably not but we can live in hope!
  • The Fall: Gillian Anderson was brilliant in the first series of The Fall and if the early reports are anything to go by expect more of the same from the second series. See what happens to serial killer Paul Spector, will he finally get his comeuppance?
  • Mad Men: Due for release in the spring and sadly the last series of this excellent programme. The rumour has it the final series will actually be split, half will be shown this year and the final few programmes in 2015.
  • Suspects: A crime-drama starring the excellent Fay Ripley has got to be good, especially when it’s filmed fly-on-the-wall style as early previews would indicate. You don’t have long to wait for this, tune in from February onwards.
  • From There To Here: Set around Manchester in 1996, this programme is based on a man whose life is ripped apart by the IRA bombings in the June of that year. It starts Philip Glenister, Bernard Hill and Steven Mackintosh so with that meaty cast list it’s definitely one to watch out for.

Tune in to the top telly programmes in 2014, if you need aerials or satellites don’t hesitate to call us as JNB.

5 Things To Consider Before You Wall-Mount Your TV

Posted by

Wall-mounting a television is a practical solution, freeing up space in the room and providing a comfortable platform to watch your favourite shows and movies. However, the work involved – and the potential costs involved if you get it wrong – can be more than a little daunting. Follow our practical advice to ensure you get the best results.

tvFind the ideal place: Work out the best position to mount your TV. This could be over the fireplace, for example, or on a main feature wall. Alternatively, you might want to place the television at a slight angle in the corner of the room. Think about where you’ll be seated when you are watching television to find the best viewing angle, and avoid putting it in a position where it will be affected by screen glare.

How are you going to mount it? Once you decide on the exact position to hang the TV you need to decide on the best mounting method. The best option is to choose an approved wall bracket that fixes firmly to the wall. Read the manual that comes with the TV for advice about weight, fixing instructions and the type of bracket you should be using. Think carefully about the height at which you’d like your TV to be mounted as well.

Do you want to conceal the wires? Before you fix a bracket to the wall, decide whether you want to conceal the AV and power cables. If you want the wires totally hidden you’ll need to ‘chase’ channels into your wall which is a rather labour intensive task. Cable covers are an easier option, they help to manage your cables and you can paint over them afterwards.

Can somebody help you? It’s handy to have another pair of hands around when you are mounting a TV to the wall. Another person will be useful, especially when you are lifting the LCD TV onto the bracket, they can take some of the strain. Make sure somebody is available to help on the day you mount the TV. It’ll save time, you can work together on the project and prevent any accidents.

Are you a confident DIY-er? Mounting a TV to a wall isn’t for everyone. Some people will struggle with this type of work, and as you’ll be hanging hundreds – if not thousands – of pounds worth of equipment, not to mention potentially damaging your walls, it may be best to bring in the professionals if you’re at all unsure.

If you’d like to make sure your TV is wall mounted safely, securely and tidily, contact JNB Aerials’ qualified engineers today. Call 01619568654 or fill in our contact form to the right of the page for a quick quote with no obligation.

Get CCTV Transmitted straight to your Smartphone

Posted by

With criminals coming up with more and more sophisticated ways to try and take your hard earned cash away from you, it is important that security for your home and business is keeping up with them. Fortunately, security systems have become more sophisticated and are much lower in cost than they have been in the past and CCTV feeds can now be transmitted straight through to your smartphone.

This has added benefits over and above the normal benefits of a CCTV Installation. You can watch the feed from anywhere, meaning you are always free to have a quick check over what is happening at your home or business.  This can be especially useful if you are away for the weekend, or just out for the night, you can check up on what is going on back at home if you feel worried at any point. We did the installation on a CCTV system in Worsley, Manchester, and the owners took great comfort in the fact that they could watch the feed from their bed if they ever heard anything untoward late at night, you can get this peace of mind and it doesn’t have to cost the earth.

The added benefits of being able to stream your CCTV to your smartphone add to the already numerous advantages of having a CCTV system fitted. They can be very useful in police investigations, giving the police the best possible chance of catching the criminals involved in burglaries, vandalism and other crimes. Also, the footage can be given to your insurance company for them to look at following a claim. Additionally, having a security system fitted can add security to your business, protecting your staff and property from abuse.

You really can’t put a price on the peace of mind a CCTV installation in Manchester can bring, and it will probably cost less than you think. Get in touch today for a free survey and quote for your property.

4 methods designed to get the best picture from a HD TV

Posted by

Buy a funky new HD telly for your home and you expect the picture to be perfect the moment you plug it in and switch it on. This isn’t always the case though, so the guys at JNB have come up with a few solutions that should help you get amazing picture quality.

  1. 1.     Invest in good quality cables: Before you set the television up make sure you are using premium grade HDMI cables. Don’t make do and mend with older types of composite cables, they won’t work, buy a good set of HDMI cables, make sure you connect them properly and they’ll give you the types of results you are expecting.
  2. Buy other HD devices: Does your digibox or DVD support HD content? If not, you could be wasting your money on a HD TV. Make sure you are actually watching HD channels or content through your new TV. You might have to upgrade your TV package if you are subscribed to a cable or satellite company, or buy an up to date DVD or BluRay player, but it’ll be worth it when you see the difference in quality.
  3. Check the settings on the TV: Go through the settings using the remote on the television and fine tune the colour, contrast and brightness. You might have custom options already built into the box so try different ‘modes’ out to see how they look. Play around for a while with the settings and it shouldn’t take you long to find a picture that you like.
  4. Look at the settings on your devices: Are they ready to rock through HD? You might have to manually adjust the source setting, even though it should automatically be set up to run HD TV. Take a quick peak at the aspect ratio setting. It should be set for 1080i. If not, change it manually and when you sit back to enjoy a flick you’ll have the glory of HD right in front of your eyes!

CCTV Installation for Homes and Shops in Manchester, Salford and Sale

Posted by

CCTV is becoming increasingly popular among homes and businesses to keep your home and workplace safe and it is often not as expensive as you may think. I wanted to tell you today about some of the reasons for installing CCTV and the success stories we have had from our clients.

Closed Circuit Television definitely deters criminals; if given a choice, criminals will target a property without a camera fitted rather than take the risk of targeting one with a camera. In a home setting, it may deter both pre-empted burglaries and opportunist thieves, as well as vandals and other anti-social behaviour, keeping your family and property safer than it would otherwise be. In a business setting, it has the same advantages with the extra benefits of saving money from a reduction in shoplifting, protection of employees and you may even gain some insight into your customers shopping habits within the store that can be taken advantage of. The simple reason for this is that criminals do not want to be captured on camera as this is vital evidence when bringing a court case against them.

We fitted a CCTV system in a small shop in Altrincham, Manchester, the customer was surprised how cheaply and quickly a system could be fitted. They saw an immediate reduction in the number of items that went missing through shoplifting as well as a drop in the number of complaints he received from his staff about abusive customers, everyone was a winner. The owner of the shop got back to us and said the system had paid for itself within a few months and the reduced aggravation for his staff was an excellent bonus.

JNB Aerials have fitted many CCTV systems for families across Manchester, from Sale to Salford, and each one of them has said the same thing, the peace of mind gained from installing a system far outweighs the monetary cost of installing a system. In many cases, the cost of CCTV installation is less than people think and you really cannot put a price on the extra security it brings to you and your family.
